Wall Cladding Mechanic

Department: SPS Fort Wayne, IN
Location: Fort Wayne, IN

Position Overview: The Metal Panel Mechanic is responsible for the professional installation of Various Metal Panel systems on a variety of commercial buildings. This includes ACM & IMP panels, Single Skin & Cement panels, Louvers and screen wall systems. The role demands precision, problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship. The Mechanic will work independently and as part of a team under the direction of the Foreman & Superintendent.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install all panel types, and hardware systems by project specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders to determine layout and installation procedures.
  • Load and unload materials and equipment; transport items to designated areas on-site.
  • Measure, cut, and fit metal components accurately using hand tools and power equipment.
  • Ensure all materials are securely anchored and aligned, ensuring water-tight and structurally sound installations.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in clean and working conditions, report issues or damage promptly.
  • Collaborate with Foreman and other trades to meet project deadlines and resolve on-site issues.
  • Maintain tools, materials, and work area in a safe, clean condition.
  • Strictly follow all safety regulations and always wear appropriate PPE.
  • Mentor and guide helpers and junior staff in proper techniques and safety practices.
  • Participate in Toolbox Talks, Safety Meetings, and Daily Huddles regularly.
  • Identify and resolve installation issues or deviations from plan in real-time.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe job site.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety guidelines, always wearing PPE.
  • Attend and contribute to Toolbox Talks, Safety Meetings, and Daily Huddles as required.
  • Supports Disciplinary Program..
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and other trades on-site.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in wall cladding, exterior paneling, or a related construction trade.
  • Strong knowledge of tools, materials, and best practices used in cladding systems.
  • Ability to work on lifts, scaffolding, and exterior heights.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents and layout drawings.
  • Experience working with aluminum composite material (ACM), metal panel systems, or rainscreens preferred.
  • OSHA 10 Certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and willingness to learn.
  • Physical ability to operate equipment in various weather conditions.
  • Must be punctual and able to follow instructions from leadership.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to travel to different job sites as required.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb for extended periods.
  • The incumbent will occasionally be required to lift but not limited to 50 lbs.
  • The incumbent will be exposed to the loud noise of construction equipment and traffic.
  • The incumbent will also be exposed to the following conditions while on the job site:
    • Work near moving mechanical parts
    • Work in high, precarious places
    • Fumes or airborne particles
    • Outdoor weather conditions
    • Extreme cold (non-weather)
    • Extreme heat (non- weather)
    • Risk of electrical shock
    • Vibration

Work is primarily conducted on job sites or in the field. The environment may be noisy and physically demanding. Safety gear is required. This job description does not list all the duties of the job.
